Have you been off work sick for less than or more than 7 days in a row for non Coronavirus symptoms?
Request a sick note for less than 7 days
You do not require a doctor’s sickness certificate for any illness lasting 7 days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
Non-urgent advice: Amendments to the self certification
The temporary change to the rules on when you need to provide a fit note has ended. From 27 January 2022 you will need to provide a fit note after 7 days of sickness to claim benefits or claim Statutory Sick Pay from your employer.
Request a sick note for more than 7 days
If you have been ill for more than 7 days you will need a doctor’s certificate. These certificates are called ‘Fitness To Work’ Certificates.
